Sunrise & Sunset Photos

It’s possible to watch the sun rise out of the Caribbean in the morning then make your way across the entire country of Costa Rica to see the sun sink into the Pacific the same evening.  Nothing symbolizes the relaxation of a tropical beach better than a tropical sunset.  The yellow ball of the sun disappearing into the midnight blue of the ocean with red, pink and orange clouds poised above the waves…

Keeping with the celestial theme there are a few moon shots included.  Click on the thumbnails for a more detailed description, location and larger images.

The only thing better than popping out onto the beach just as the sun sets after a long day of trekking through the rainforest covered mountains is knowing that there's a cold Imperial with your name on it just ahead at La Leona and you don't have to set up camp tonight.

Trees reflected in Lago Tortuguero at sunrise, northern Caribbean Costa Rica. This was a long day. We saw the sun climb out of the Atlantic and in the evening watched it drop into the Pacific near Tarcoles after a collectivo boat ride, a km or two hiking with our gear because the water level was too low to reach the end of the road, a collectivo bus, a public bus to San Jose where we picked up a rental car and headed west.

Looks like another beautiful, romantic, and breathtaking sunset unless you know what they're doing...we spent a few minutes filling a couple of 5 gallon buckets (easily found at the high tide line) with flotsam, jetsam and other garbage and we're rinsing the sand off of it before adding it to the mountainous pile at the end of the road waiting to be picked up and hauled to the dump.
