Magnetic-Base, Flexi-Neck, Clip-On, Laser Pointer/LED Book Light
It’s absolutely brilliant. I love doohickeys and this one is no exception.
I have to admit that sometimes I’m a little susceptible to clever, compact, combination, creations. I’ve actually looked longingly at combination travel iron/steamers but have held off so far because I’ve never ironed anything in my life and they haven’t integrated a pepper spray self defense system into the handle…yet. This little light is different though…really.

The little super bright led will get you down a dark path or let you find what you need in your suitcase in an emergency. You can also clip it to your book cover, pajama lapel or click magnetically to the bed frame then use the flexible goose neck to point the light right on the page. The white light is easy on the eyes and focused enough not to disturb your partner in bed.
Ok, so it’s a cute little reading lamp, but your next thought must be what the heck do you need a laser pointer for on a vacation to Costa Rica?
Imagine this conversation.
You: “That’s remarkable! What is it?”
Naturalist Guide: “What?”
You: “That green thing there in the canopy, below the other the big green thing, sort of half hidden by the chartreuse thing…”
Naturalist Guide: “Where?”
You: “Right up there…It’s sort of lime green…”
You get the idea. Typically laser pointers aren’t used outdoors because they’re washed out by the intensity of the sun, but it’s dark in Costa Rica’s rain and cloud forests and the pointers work remarkably well. As far as I’ve found these all have red lasers and green is actually preferred by naturalist guides because the human eye is more sensitive to that frequency. If you find a green one let me know.
Besides it’s five bucks, slips in your pocket and you can play with it in the airport instead of your Swiss Army knife which must now be safely stowed in your checked luggage.
