The 2008 rainy season was late in coming but started in earnest the last week in May. Tropical storm Alma formed offshore over the Pacific and skirted the Pacific coast bringing heavy rains and minor flooding from the Osa to Nicoya and across Guanacaste before moving across the isthmus to cause even heavier damage in Nicaragua, Guatemala and Belize.

Tropical storm Arthur followed closely but fortunately dissipated quickly over the first few days of June.
