Tour Companies in Costa Rica

If you don't have the time to plan a trip or the time to waste in Costa Rica when things go wrong, we recommend the tour companies below

If you do choose to take a tour you will pay for it. The summer of 1999, we spent around $4,600 for nearly three months travel including airfare. We only camped a few nights, were making a point of staying in nice places when we found them (some were fantastic), eating really good food, drinking beer and wine and doing all of the adventure tourism things we wanted to. Our previous trips were about half as expensive per day because we roughed it more, and we have met people who spent even less.

If you start checking out tours you will find that $3,000 to $5,000 will buy you between 9 and 15 days with airfare included for two people. And don't forget that there are always extra expenses and souvenirs to buy.

  • ExperiencePlus! is a friendly bicycle/ walking tour company based in our hometown (recommended)
  • Backroads is a big international touring company
  • Ecoteach is a unique organization that helps people learn, work and volunteer and still have fun while traveling, and is by our estimation the best value tour company for your money
  • David Duarte Soto of Sarapiqui outdoor was our host in La Virgen and guided when we whitewater rafted the Sarapiqui river. His services (and especially the food) are highly recommended
